WA & OR Wine Month 6-pack Sampler #2 - Oregon Reds
$230 Value For Just $175!
Pinot Noir, as almost everyone knows is Oregon's "signature" red varietal, but it isn't the only red grape that they grow there. This sampler is strong with the Pinots, featuring 4 of our favorites, but it also has a fantastic Gamay and surprisingly good Tempranillo.
Included in the Sampler (1 bottle each):
Division Wine Co. "Les Petits Fers" Gamay Noir (Oregon & Washington) - Inspired by French bistro style wines, the Les Petits Fers Gamay Noir, which means "the little irons," is a light and crushable red produced similarly to a Beaujolais-Villages, utilizing significant carbonic and semi-carbonic maceration, a technique that highlights its bright, juicy fruit. The wine, a blend of Gamay fruit from both Oregon and Washington, is beautifully garnet in color and offers complex aromas of crunchy red raspberry, vibrant red cherry, and strawberry, complemented by savory notes of dried herbs, pepper, and a touch of rose petal. The palate is fresh, lively, and driven by bright acidity, carrying the intense red fruit flavors alongside an earthy minerality and fine, smooth tannins, which makes it a quintessential example of an easy-drinking, food-friendly Gamay that is great at cellar temperature or delightful when enjoyed with a slight chill.
Kate Arnold Wines "Purple Cow Vineyard" Tempranillo (Oregon) - Kate Arnold Wines is a family-owned venture founded by Kate and Jean Arnold, dedicated to sourcing high-quality grapes from premier, often small, family-owned vineyards across Oregon, Washington, and California, with a commitment to transparency and minimal intervention winemaking. The Purple Cow Vineyard Tempranillo comes from the Tualatin Hills AVA in Oregon, showcasing the ability of the Pacific Northwest to produce complex, Iberian-style reds, as well as the Pinot family wines we're all familiar with. A rich, age-worthy Tempranillo that exhibits a clear, medium purple color, with complex aromas of cedar, cherry, cinnamon, and flint, alongside dark fruit notes like blackberry jam and clove. The palate is typically rich in the mid-palate with flavors of pipe tobacco, boysenberry, and vanilla, all supported by balanced acidity and a distinctly tannic finish that promises great aging potential and paring with your favorite beef dish.
Hyland Estate Petite Estate Pinot Noir (Oregon) - The historic Hyland Vineyard was first planted in 1971 in the McMinnville AVA, making it one of Oregon’s oldest sites and a source of fruit for many of the state's top producers. The Petit Estate Pinot Noir is composed of fruit from the estate's younger, yet still mature, 20-to-30-year-old vines and is a blend of Pommard, Dijon, and the historic Coury clones, which contributes to its complexity. The wine is loaded with aromas of black plums, peppercorns, wet earth, and rose hips, offering a full and sweet entry onto the palate. It delivers concentrated flavors of sweet cherries and black currants, enhanced by a silky mouthfeel and fine-grained tannins that provide structure. Aged for approximately nine months in a combination of French oak and small stainless vessels, the wine has savory notes of black tea and umami that create a lingering, complex, and memorable finish.
Violin Wines Polk County Cuvee Pinot Noir (Oregon) - Violin winemaker and proprietor Will Hamilton blends this special cuvee from the top vineyard sites in Polk County including Witness Tree, Temprance Hill, Justice and Sojeau. Offering dark cherry and berry compote aromas layered with intriguing savory elements of dried hazelnut, oyster juice, cedar, and turned earth, alongside floral and spicy notes. On the palate, the wine has a mouth-coating attack with an elegant weight that is surprisingly concentrated, delivering flavors of maraschino cherries and graphite. The structure is built around a nervy, persistent skeleton of integrated acidity and fine, firm tannins, which provide a long, savory, and compelling finish. Hamilton's style focuses on purity and minimal new oak, allowing the wine to express its unique blend of powerful fruit cores from vineyards like Sojeau and Justice, balanced by the more classic, ethereal, and earthy elements from Temperance and Witness Tree.
Evesham Wood Willamette Valley Pinot Noir (Oregon) - Evesham Wood is a storied Willamette Valley winery, founded in 1986, that embodies the philosophy of high quality through minimal intervention, with all their estate vines certified organic. The Willamette Valley Pinot Noir, is made with the same care and small-lot techniques as their single-vineyard wines, using fruit from prestigious, dry-farmed sites like Illahe, Mahonia, and those in the Eola-Amity Hills AVA. Showing soaring florals and savory herbs on the nose, complemented by scents of mint and white pepper. The palate is energetic and bright, delivering clear flavors of tart cranberries, blood orange, and electric red fruit, all held in tension by vibrant acidity and a briny/salty minerality typical of wines grown in the area.
Domaine Roy & Fils Willamette Valley Pinot Noir (Oregon) - Domaine Roy & Fils was founded in 2012 by the sons of the pioneering family that established the renowned Beaux Frères estate, and it upholds a philosophy of elegance over power, utilizing estate fruit from two distinct terroirs: the volcanic Jory soils of Iron Filbert in Dundee Hills and the marine sedimentary soils of Quartz Acorn in Yamhill-Carlton. This powerful expression Oregon Pinot opens with bright and lifted aromatics of wild strawberries, confit cherry, and rose petals, underscored by a subtle herbaceous note of bay laurel. The palate is medium-bodied with a supple texture and a vibrant core of sappy Bing cherry and mulberry that is energized by bright acidity. It finishes with fine-grained, earthy tannins and a lovely length, showing savory notes of Oolong tea and tamarind.
