Tre Monti Campo Di Mezzo 2025 Sangiovese Superiore
Tasting Notes
The Tre Monti Campo di Mezzo Sangiovese Superiore is a vibrant, organically grown red wine from Italy's Emilia-Romagna region that completely bypasses oak aging. Fermented exclusively in stainless steel and glass-lined concrete tanks, this pure expression of the Sangiovese varietal highlights a fruit-forward personality. Unlike its neighbor Tuscany, Romagna Sangiovese typically exhibits a softer, more voluptuous mid-palate; here, winemakers David and Vittorio Navacchia purposefully blend two distinct clones—a muscular, structured strain from Forlì and a softer, fruit-driven strain from Imola. The wine opens with an aromatic bouquet of crisp dark fruits and sweet violet petals. On the palate, it delivers a succulent, medium-bodied profile brimming with wild blackberry, black plum, sour cherry, and subtle hints of licorice root, sage, and turned earth. With soft, rounded tannins and a crisp, refreshing acidity, it is a versatile food companion. It pairs beautifully with rich, rustic Italian fare like baked pasta with meat ragù or mushrooms, chicken liver crostini, a board of prosciutto and salami, gourmet burgers, and—as the Navacchia family traditionally suggests—even a plate of mixed fried fish.
