Terroir Napa Valley 2023 Cabernet Sauvignon

$ 3499

Tasting Notes

The 2023 Terroir Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is a bold and structured red wine crafted by winemaker Craig Handly of Gibbs Napa Valley. This vintage opens with a lush and aromatic nose defined by ripe blackberry, dark currant, and integrated French oak. On the mid-palate, it unveils deep layers of classic Cabernet fruit—including black cherry and deep plum—accented by subtle baking spices, cedar, and bittersweet chocolate. Characterized by a full-bodied richness and a beautifully long, sustained finish, the wine strikes a balance between powerful dark fruit intensities and a polished, approachable framework of soft, rounded tannins.

As a varietal expression, this wine leans heavily on Cabernet Sauvignon, the signature grape of Napa Valley known for its thick skins, natural acidity, and stellar aging potential. To introduce extra complexity, structural depth, and softer textures, the primary grape is judiciously balanced with traditional Bordeaux blending components like Merlot, Petit Verdot, and Malbec. The stellar 2023 Napa Valley growing season provided moderate summer temperatures and an extended hang time, resulting in grapes that delivered exceptionally pure fruit character alongside a vibrant acid lift and fine-grained, velvety tannins.

Designed as a classic steakhouse wine, this expressive Cabernet Sauvignon pairs phenomenally with hearty, fat-rich red meats like grilled ribeye, filet mignon, or venison, where the meat's proteins seamlessly cut through the wine's bold tannins. It also complements savory, earthy dishes featuring wild mushrooms or slow-braised beef ribs, and stands up wonderfully to hard, aged cheeses like Gouda or sharp Cheddar. For an unexpected yet delightful pairing, its dark cacao and mocha undertones allow it to be savored alongside high-quality dark chocolate.
