Tasting Notes

The Tenute Silvio Nardi 2020 Brunello di Montalcino is a highly acclaimed, full-bodied Italian red wine crafted entirely from 100% Sangiovese grapes grown in the prestigious Montalcino region of Tuscany. True to the strict rules of the Brunello di Montalcino DOCG, this expression showcases the signature high acidity, robust structure, and intense flavor concentration characteristic of elite Tuscan winemaking. The 2020 vintage reflects a warm growing season that yielded an open-knit, deeply expressive, and polished profile built for significant cellar longevity.

On the nose, this wine opens with a complex bouquet of black cherry, baked blackberry, and raspberry, beautifully layered with nuanced undertones of leather, tobacco leaf, and fresh potting soil. Subtle hints of lavender, coffee, and dark chocolate quickly emerge from the glass, adding an inviting aromatic depth. The palate is rich and full-bodied, driven by a core of concentrated dark fruits nicely balanced by polished oak spice, orange peel, and earthy forest floor accents. It exhibits a dense matrix of firm, velvety tannins and a vibrant pop of acidity that seamlessly carries through to a long, beautifully structured, and chewy finish.

The powerful structure, gripping tannins, and high acidity of this Brunello make it an exceptional partner for rich, savory dishes that can cut through its dense texture. It pairs beautifully with thick porterhouse steaks, bistecca alla Fiorentina, and other heavily marbled cuts of prime beef. The wine's rustic, earth-toned complexity also complements wild game like venison, wild boar, and roasted duck, as well as hearty, slow-cooked stews. For pasta courses, it pairs wonderfully with rich, meat-driven ragùs or a decadent short rib risotto. Additionally, it serves as an excellent match for aged, seasoned cheeses like Pecorino Toscano. Surprisingly versatile, its robust profile can even support meaty, flavorful fish dishes such as sturgeon or grouper.
