Schug 2023 Carneros White Pinot Noir
Winemaker Notes
Founded in 1980, Schug Carneros Estate Winery is the showcase and life-long dream of one of California's most celebrated winemakers. Walter Schug's reputation blossomed during his tenure as Founding Winemaker for Joseph Phelps Vineyards in the 1970s, where he made California’s first proprietary Bordeaux-Style blend (Insignia) and legendary vineyard designated Cabernets (Backus and Eisele Vineyards).
Since founding their winery in Carneros, Napa's coolest AVA, the Schug family has become renowned for producing some of Napa's most elegant, complex and best value Chardonnays and Pinot Noirs.
A rare, luscious dry white wine from 100% Pinot Noir. The grapes were hand-harvested at night with only the purest free-run juice collected from the wine press. Then, 100% barrel fermented in neutral French oak barrels without skin contact to preserve the pale color and fresh, delicate flavors of wild strawberries, white peach, stone fruit, and honeysuckle. “Sur-lie” aging for five months provides mouthwatering texture and adds exotic notes of quince, watermelon, and grapefruit zest. The finish is full and long with a vibrant acidity and light minerality.
