Paulo Laureano 2018 "Vidigueira Antiga" Tinto

$ 2999

Situated in the warm, historic Vidigueira subregion of Portugal's Alentejo, Paulo Laureano Vinhas Velhas is driven by the singular vision of its namesake founder, one of Portugal’s most respected consulting oenologists. Laureano established his estate with a strict commitment to indigenous Portuguese grape varieties, actively shunning international cultivars in order to showcase the authentic, historical character of the region. The Vidigueira terroir is defined by its ancient schist soils and a distinct microclimate where thermal breezes from the nearby Serra do Mendro help temper the intense southern sun, allowing grapes to achieve rich concentration while preserving natural freshness and structural integrity.

The Paulo Laureano 2018 Vidigueira Antiga Tinto is a deeply textured Alentejo blend composed of Aragonez, Trincadeira, Alicante Bouschet, and Touriga Nacional. Aged for 12 months in new French oak barrels following temperature-controlled fermentation, it yields expressive aromas of dark berry preserves, black plum, sweet tobacco leaf, and subtle baking spices. The palate opens smoothly with ripe, fleshy dark fruits, balanced by fresh, integration-driven acidity and fine-grained tannins that frame savory notes of cocoa, cracked pepper, and soft cedar on a persistent finish.  Laureano has waited to release this amazing wine and this bold red is just now starting to shed some of its youthful exuberance, showing the tertiary flavors and complexity that only time in the bottle can create.
