This Month's Selections
Piaggia by Mauro Vannucci 2022 "Il Sasso" (Carmignano, Italy)
A blend of Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Merlot from low-yielding plots, this bottling opens with aromas of ripe dark cherry, crushed blackberry, dried thyme, and subtle baking spice. Twelve months of maturation in French oak barrels adds hints of cocoa, cedar, and cured tobacco without obscuring the fruit. The palate is medium to full-bodied, delivering vibrant dark fruit framed by fine, velvety tannins, balanced acidity, and a long finish marked by savory graphite and crushed stone minerality.
Domaine d'Ouréa by Adrien Roustan 2023 "Tire Bouchon" Rouge (Vins de France, Southern France)
An organic blend of Grenache, Carignan, Aramon, Terret Noir, and Oeillade sourced from high-elevation vineyards in the Southern Rhône. Fermented natively using whole clusters and aged entirely in concrete vats, it leads with expressive notes of fresh wild strawberry, crushed pomegranate, red plum, and garrigue herbs. The palate is light-footed, supple, and driven by bright fruit purity, featuring crunchy red berry acidity and smooth, silk-textured tannins through a lifted, spicy finish.
Two Hands 2022 "Gnarly Dudes" Shiraz (Barossa Valley, Australia)
Sourced from old-vine, dry-farmed parcels across the sub-regions of the Barossa Valley, this wine ages for twelve months in a combination of new and seasoned French oak punchons. Concentrated aromas of black plum, dark chocolate, lavender, and cracked black pepper define the nose. On the palate, it delivers a rich core of muddled blackberry and blueberry, layered with secondary accents of espresso and licorice, all wrapped in plush, well-rounded tannins and supported by balanced acidity.
Rene Leclerc 2022 Bourgogne Rouge (Burgundy, France)
Crafted using traditional, low-intervention methods with no new oak, this estate-bottled Pinot Noir showcases classic Côte de Nuits character. Aromas of fresh red cherry, wild raspberry, pomegranate, and damp earth lift cleanly from the glass. The palate is refined and light to medium-bodied, offering a pure core of tart red fruit, subtle forest floor, and savory spice held together by fine-grained tannins and bright, precise acidity.
