TASTING NOTES
This Calistoga site produces wines with a particularly intricate, multi-faceted Cabernet Sauvignon profile that shines in years where more structure is present in the wines. This is the case for the 2019 vintage. In the glass, the wine displays a completely opaque purple-black hue with a dark violet halo. Vivid aromas suggest beef blood, black currant, loam, and graphite. The concentrated, mouth-coating palate showcases complex notes of smoked meat, sandalwood, baking spice, cocoa nib, gravel and crushed black fruit. The lush fruit notes are complemented by a fine grain, medium tannin structure and pleasingly bright acidity. This wine has decades of drinking potential. Only time will reveal how the voluminous layers of this exceptional Amoenus bottling will unfold.
First made in 2009 (the first vintage of Maybach was in 2004), the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Amoenus offers an incredible, full-bodied, pure, seamless style, and I suspect this is the finest vintage of this cuvée ever made. Gorgeous red and black fruits, toasted spice, brioche, violets, and flowers are just some of the nuances here, and it's one of those wines that brings massive richness and depth while staying pure, seamless, and as graceful as they come.
