Marchesi Frescobaldi 2025 "Attems" Ramato Pinot Grigio
Tasting Notes
The Marchesi Frescobaldi 2025 "Attems" Ramato Pinot Grigio is a vibrant, historically rooted expression of the Pinot Grigio varietal from the Friuli Venezia Giulia region of northeastern Italy. Though consumers typically expect Pinot Grigio to be a clear, crisp white wine, the grape is actually a genetic mutation of Pinot Noir with naturally dusty pink-gray skins. By practicing traditional "Ramato" vinification—leaving the must in contact with the skins for roughly 10 hours—the winemakers extract a beautiful onion-skin or coppery-pink hue alongside enhanced structural depth. Sourced from the estate's Eocene sandstone, marl, and marine "ponca" soils, this 12.5% ABV vintage delivers an intense, saline minerality.
On the nose, the 2025 vintage opens with a delicately floral profile of broom flower and Alpine rose, evolving with oxygen to reveal crisp aromas of crunchy pear, wild strawberry, and dried cherry. The palate is light-bodied yet remarkably precise and well-defined, showing a silky texture wrapped around a vibrant core of stone fruit and subtle spices. Thanks to optimal day-to-night temperature variations during the 2025 growing season, the wine maintains a bright, beautifully integrated acidity that drives a long, clean finish accented by hints of blackcurrant and savory rosemary.
Because it bridges the line between a structured rosé and a savory amber wine, this Pinot Grigio Ramato possesses a delicate tannic grip that makes it exceptionally food-friendly. It pairs beautifully with local Italian specialties like prosciutto, rich seafood stews, or roasted poultry. The wine's crisp acidity and saline cut also make it an ideal accompaniment for raw or lightly seared dishes like sushi and tuna tataki.
