Tasting Notes
The 2019 Gagnon-Kennedy Napa Valley Cuvée is a premium, full-bodied Cabernet Sauvignon dominant red blend (composed of approximately 96% to 97% Cabernet Sauvignon and the remainder Petit Verdot). Crafted as a masterwork "symphony" by winemaker Marc Gagnon and sommelier Michael Kennedy, this vintage aggregates fruit from historic single-vineyard sites across Oakville, Rutherford, Calistoga, and Coombsville to showcase a complete picture of the valley's distinct terroir.
On the nose, the wine greets you with a deep, dark purple core and an expressive, layered bouquet of dark and red fruits, including concentrated blackberry, blackcurrant, cassis, and dark cherry. This rich fruit profile is beautifully integrated with complex secondary aromas of oaky vanilla, limestone, cedar, tobacco, earthy graphite, and a gentle dusting of baking spice and Mexican cocoa. On the palate, it delivers a smooth yet powerful density, showing off resonant blue and black fruit flavors backed by an elegant, refined sweetness. The structure is defined by velvety, firmly woven tannins and an impressive freshness that transitions seamlessly into a long, lingering, and beautifully balanced dry finish.
Given its bold structure and fruit-forward density, this Napa Cabernet pairs exceptionally well with rich, well-marbled meats and hearty dishes. It is a fantastic match for refined steakhouse fare such as a bone-in grilled ribeye, a classic rack of lamb, or tender braised short ribs. For non-meat variations, its earthy undercurrents complement a luxurious mushroom risotto or charred, roasted root vegetables. To finish the meal, it pairs wonderfully alongside aged hard cheeses like a mature cheddar or gouda, and it has the intensity to stand up beautifully against high-cacao dark chocolate
