Founded in 1850 by the Bernard family, Domaine la Garrigue resides in what is now the appellation of Vaqueyras. One of the largest landholders there, they have defined the style of Vacqueyras and were instrumental in having it elevated to Cru status. Probably what they are best known for, though, is the "Cuvée Romaine" Côtes-du-Rhône. The Cuvée Romaine is no mere Côtes-du-Rhône, this is a powerful red that always evolves beautifully for years after it is released.
This blend is made primarily from Grenache and Syrah grapes with a 50/50 blend. This wine is known for its earthy notes, including hints of leather and smoke. It offers a rich medium to full-bodied texture with flavors of red and black fruit, garrigue (a mix of wild mediterranean herbs), pepper and spice.
