95pts Wine Spectator, 95pts James Suckling
On the nose, the wine presents a fresh, wild, and savory profile. Aromas of dark fruit such as blackberry bramble, dark cherry, and huckleberry are deeply intertwined with earthy and herbal notes. You will find savory hints of curry leaves and lobster mushrooms, along with delicate, uplifting floral elements like rose hips and dusty rose. The characteristic Cristom use of whole-cluster fermentation adds layers of baking spices, conifer needles, and dried orange peel accents.
The palate is firm, focused, and concentrated, yet delivered on an elegant structure with impressive textural finesse. It is lively due to its nervy, mouthwatering acidity, which balances a core of pure, expansive red and dark fruit flavors, including black cherries, blackcurrants, and effusive raspberry notes. The wine's texture is built on fine-grained, chalky, and moderate tannins that provide excellent grip without being aggressive. As the wine sits on the palate, spice notes like cloves and cinnamon develop, leading into a long, spicy finish that carries savory herbs and a pleasant, tart cranberry twang.
