The Ciacci Piccolomini d'Aragona 2021 Brunello di Montalcino is a pristine, energetic expression crafted from 100% Sangiovese Grosso grapes. Sourced from the estate’s historic vineyards on the south-eastern slopes of Montalcino in Castelnuovo dell'Abate—where vines thrive in well-draining galestro and marl soils—this vintage balances late-afternoon warmth with incredible structural tension. The winemaking process involves temperature-controlled fermentation in stainless steel and concrete vats, followed by traditional aging for 24 months in large Slavonian oak barrels and an additional 8 months of bottle refinement. On the nose, this radiant red offers an intense, complex bouquet bursting with aromas of red cherries, wild raspberries, violets, and lavender, woven together with savory hints of leather, tobacco leaf, licorice, and balsamic spice. The palate is medium-to-full-bodied with a weightless, silky feel, delivering a vibrant snap of sour cherry, blood orange, and dark chocolate supported by a core of nervous, electric acidity and a matrix of crunchy, fine-grained tannins that lead to a long, mineral-driven finish.This structured and acidic Sangiovese makes a magnificent gastronomic companion for a variety of rich, savory courses. Its firm tannins and bright fruit profile cut beautifully through heavy meat dishes, pairing perfectly with roasted or stewed game like wild boar, pheasant, or hare, as well as grilled ribeye steak and slow-braised lamb chops. It is equally outstanding when served alongside traditional Italian first courses featuring pappardelle or handmade pasta tossed in rich red meat ragù, earthy black truffle risottos, or a curated platter of mature cheeses such as aged Pecorino Toscano and Parmigiano-Reggiano. For the ultimate tasting experience, open and decant the bottle at least one to two hours before pouring, and serve it slightly cool at 64°F (18°C) in large crystal Bordeaux glasses to allow its complex aromatics to fully unfurl.
