Mira 2018 Yountville, Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon - The nose is so opulent that there are great expectations for lushness of flavor and texture... and the palate doesn't disappoint. Scents of violets, graphite, tilled soil, and toasted oak are almost indulgent. Once in the mouth, you're rewarded old school style Napa Cabernet brilliance showing fleshy boysenberry and a coating of licorice initiating the bold flavors and determined grip. Violets and slate tannins run in tandem with black olive, soy sauce, sage, and black pepper. 94pts Wine Enthusiast

Blue Rock 2021 Alexander Valley, Sonoma Cabernet Sauvignon - Silver Oak's Alexander Valley Cabernet is one of California's iconic Cabs, and if you're a fan of it, we think you'll love this one.  This fantastic Cab comes from a small, family owned vineyard/winery right next door to the original Silver Oak vineyard in Alexander Valley that helped make the label so renowned, although now because they have increased production so much they use many other vineyards in the valley as well.  The wine has a pristine dark red and deep purple tint, with aromas that celebrate the dark side of Cabernet as well, featuring ripe black plum, black currant and black cherry heightened by an intriguing note of graphite and subtle touches of black pepper and vanilla. All these elements come to a beautiful crescendo on the palate in perfect harmony and balance, with fine tannins, beautiful acidity and a dash of warm baking spices on the long and satisfying finish. - 92pts Wine Enthusiast

Halter Ranch Paso Robles Estate Cabernet Sauvignon - Once known primarily for Rhone Varietals, the last decade has seen Paso Robles begin to challenge Napa and Sonoma by producing some of the state's best Cabs, often at prices well below their counterparts to the north.  For the last couple of years, Halter Ranch has been one of our favorite Cabs under $50 this latest release is no exception.  The 2020 Cabernet Sauvignon exudes aromas of red and black currant, raspberry, boysenberry, and toasted almonds. The palate offers a soft and supple entry, revealing flavors of crumbled blueberry pie, olallieberry, and a hint of graham cracker. The finish is rich and textured, with soft, integrated tannins that create a long, layered finish.

Gail Wines 2022 "Doris" Sonoma County Cabernet Sauvignon - Originally from Providence, Rhode Island, Dan O’Brien honed his wine knowledge behind the bar and as a sommelier in Boston before being recruited to build the wine cellar for the Michelin-starred Cavallo Point in Marin, California. While living in California, Dan's passion for wine grew, and he began working in the production side of the business, working harvests at L'Aventure in Paso Robles and Larkmead in Napa, eventually becoming a consultant for new wineries in Napa and Sonoma. He launched Gail wines in 2013 and has quickly become one of Sonoma's rising Cabernet stars.  Named after his great aunt, Doris is deep purple in color with incredibly expressive aromas of violet, cassis, eucalyptus and cocoa. The palate is sleek and well-defined with power and depth that is impeccably balanced by graceful tannins and zip-line acidity. Flavors of blackberry, cassis and blueberries explode on the palate to complement the floral and herbal nuances from the nose. The finish is long, elegant and refreshing with a mineral drive that adds to the wine's complexity.

Venge 2022 "Silencieux" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon - Winemaker Kirk Venge is one of the Valley's top winemaking consultants, making wine for over a dozen different wineries, but this eponymous label that he runs with if father Nils Venge (also a wine maker who crafted Napa first 100 point Cabernet at Groth) is where he really shines.  Wonderfully aromatic and expressive, the 2022 vintage opens with scents of sweet cassis, anise, blackberries, roasted coffee, blue herbs and barrel vanillin. On the palate, the tannins are firm, upfront and balanced throughout, with all pockets of the mouth left yearning for another sip. Full-bodied and extracted with ripe black fruit, blueberries, charred caramel and a delightful hint of fresh herbs that concentrate into a lengthy finish.

Caterwaul 2022 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon - Caterwaul is a new collaboration between superstar winemaker Thomas Rivers Brown and Matt Hardin from Barbour Vineyard Management.  This vintage of Caterwaul expresses an impressive array of decadent fruit, exotic spice and mouth-watering structure. In the glass, the wine exhibits a completely opaque, deep purple hue with a dark violet halo. Aromas swell from the glass in waves of black cherry, plum reduction, aromatic wood, eucalyptus and pine bough. The palate is marked by a very sleek, polished mouth-feel. Complex notes of roasted meat, cassis, quince, macerated blackberry and nutmeg are intricately layered, framed by a complimentary acidity. This wine offers a wealth of pure Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon character that is readily accessible today and should age well in the cellar for decades.
