Blue Rock 2022 Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
Tasting Notes
The 2022 Blue Rock Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is a rich, expressive red wine reflecting a low-rainfall, very warm vintage from the estate's quarter-century-old vines in Sonoma County. The varietal composition is a classic Bordeaux-style blend of 92% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Malbec, and 3% Merlot. It was aged for 21 months in French oak barrels (28% new) before being bottled in July 2024 and released in October 2025. On the nose, this vintage reveals a deep, dark aromatic profile dominated by kirsch, chocolate-covered cherry, cassis, and bay leaf, heightened by energetic layers of blackberry, plum, and subtle hints of graphite, vanilla, and warm baking spices. The palate features incredible breadth and length, showcasing flavors of cocoa, dark plum, mocha, cedar, and black cherry, all framed by a firm, mouth-coating, and generous tannic structure balanced by lively acidity. The luxurious ripeness and balanced structure of this Cabernet Sauvignon make it an effortless companion for a variety of rich, savory foods. It serves as a perfect match for hearty red meats, such as grilled or broiled filets, short ribs, and T-bone steaks prepared simply with olive oil, salt, and pepper, or enhanced by an herbed red wine reduction sauce. The wine’s robust tannins and bold dark fruit profile also allow it to cut through the fat of roasted lamb chops or rich beef stews, while pairing beautifully with aged cheddar, Gouda, and other hard artisanal cheeses.
