Blicks Lane Marlborough Pinot Noir
Tasting Notes
The Blicks Lane Marlborough Pinot Noir presents a translucent cranberry color in the glass. It opens with a delicately perfumed bouquet of wild strawberry, sour cherry, potpourri, and a lift of orange peel mixed with damp woodland earth. On the featherlight, dry palate, it reveals layers of vivid red berry cordial, plum, and savory tea leaf flavors. A touch of smoky oak, vanilla, and cocktail bitters-like herbal notes balance the wine, leading to a long, crisp finish driven by tangy acidity and fine, supple tannins.
This elegant wine is made entirely from Pinot Noir grapes grown in the premium Rapaura sub-region of Marlborough, New Zealand. Sourced from the organic Walnut Block estate, the vines thrive in ancient alluvial soils shaped by old riverbeds, benefiting from sunny days and cool nights. The grapes consist of high-quality Burgundy clones that are handpicked and naturally fermented with wild yeasts. To build subtle texture and structure, the wine is aged in French barriques for 12 months before bottling.
The vibrant acidity and featherlight body of this Pinot Noir make it an exceptionally versatile food partner. It pairs brilliantly with meaty and oily fish like grilled salmon or tuna, as its delicate tannins will not overwhelm the seafood. Its earthy undertones perfectly complement mushroom-based dishes, wild risotto, or savory duck confit. For a classic pairing, serve it alongside roasted lamb or lighter game meats. It also beautifully highlights roasted root vegetables, charcuterie boards, and soft cheeses.
