Tasting Notes

The Marchesi Antinori 2021 Tignanello Toscana IGT is a highly acclaimed, landmark Super Tuscan composed of a precise varietal blend of 79% Sangiovese, 13% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 8% Cabernet Franc. In the glass, this exceptional vintage presents a deep ruby red color with intense purple highlights. Its highly complex nose opens with an expressive bouquet of ripe plums, sour cherries, blackcurrants, and candied orange peels, which gracefully unfurl into rich secondary notes of dark chocolate, licorice, mint, and sweet pipe tobacco. On the palate, the 2021 Tignanello is full-bodied, rich, and remarkably sophisticated, striking a flawless harmony between the vibrant, mineral-driven acidity of Sangiovese and a densely concentrated mid-palate. The wine's structural backbone is defined by exceptionally supple, polished, and velvety tannins that seamlessly frame its ripe dark fruit profiles, leading into an extraordinarily long, persistent, and racy finish laced with hints of roasted hazelnut and spice.Built beautifully for the dining table, the structure and bright acidity of the 2021 Tignanello make it an excellent gastronomic partner. It pairs perfectly with rich, protein-heavy main courses such as classic Bistecca alla Fiorentina, grilled New York strip steaks, roasted lamb chops, or slow-braised beef short ribs, where the firm tannins slice beautifully through the fat. It is equally phenomenal alongside game dishes like wild boar ragù tossed with pappardelle, venison tenderloin, or roast duck with a cherry reduction. For vegetarian options, the wine's earthy and herbal undertones elegantly complement a decadent wild mushroom risotto, truffle pasta, or a rich eggplant parmigiana. Finally, it handles robust, aged hard cheeses with absolute authority, making a traditional Aged Pecorino Toscano or Parmigiano Reggiano an ideal conclusion to the bottle.
