Provence

Provence

The Provence wine region is the oldest viticultural area in France, stretching along the Mediterranean coast from the Rhône River to the Italian border and defined by a landscape of rugged limestone, crystalline schist, and aromatic scrubland known as garrigue. While it is internationally renowned as the spiritual home of dry rosé, which accounts for nearly 90% of its total production, the region also produces structured reds and aromatic whites under primary appellations such as Côtes de Provence, Coteaux d’Aix-en-Provence, and Coteaux Varois en Provence. The climate is quintessential Mediterranean, characterized by abundant sunshine and the cooling influence of the Mistral wind, which keeps the vineyards dry and minimizes disease pressure. This unique environment results in wines that are famously pale in color yet vibrant in acidity, offering a signature profile of red berries, citrus, and subtle herbal notes that reflect the terroir of southeastern France.
