Le Roc 2019 La Folle Noir d'Ambat Fronton
$ 2299
The Côtes du Frontonnais winemaking region is located on the left bank of the Tarn River about 20 miles north of Toulouse. The subsoil is composed of ice age deposits, topped by alluvial soil and rouget, a material very rich in iron that evokes parallels to the character of the wines. The typical climate of the region is similar to that of Bordeaux: warm and dry in the summer, and mild and wet in the winter. The grape that sets Fronton apart from other winemaking regions in France is its principal cultivar, Negrette (also known Jurancon or Folle Noire) . Importer Charles Neal states: "This is vigneron Fredo Ribes' rendition of the varietal, which resembles Syrah with its dark berry and violet aromas and flavors. We call this one of the true French country wines, with its forward flavors, slight rusticity (in a good way, or course) and its ability to pair wonderfully with simple country cooking that has a little bit of fat around the edges."
