Winemaker Notes
Montecucco is a Tuscan wine region just south of Brunello was not on connoisseurs' map until 10 years ago, but the specific soil and micro-climate there allows Sangiovese Grosso to grow with a similar character style to its northern neighbor, but still sells for a fraction of the cost.
The color is a bit darker than in many other Sangiovese wines of Tuscany (except Brunello!), and shows a nose wild plums and violets with hints geranium, black pepper and some woody notes that kick in at the end. Lithe and moderately long Rigoleto is a blend of Sangiovese, Ciliegiolo and Montepulciano. Bright, offering cherry and raspberry fruit, with light touches of licorice and mint.
