Casa Marin 2021 Cipreses Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc
Winemaker Notes
The Casa Marin Cipreses Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc is consistently rated as one of the top Sauvignon Blanc's coming out of South America, consistently garnering 95+ points from many of the world's most influential wine critics. In 2009 is was even named as the world's best Sauvignon Blanc by Decanter Magazine.
The 2021 is another stunning offering that again scored 95pts from both Parker's Wine Advocate and Decanter Magazine.
At harvest time the fruit is handpicked from seven separate blocks within the vineyard according to the soil type with each lot fermented separately. The young wine is then left to rest on the lees for a short period in stainless steel tanks. The wine is infused with oceanic flavors, the saltiness of the air and the spiky green-herb scents of the surrounding coastal scrub along with zippy grapefruit, lemongrass and finishing with spicy jalapeno pepper. Drink now or see how this "long haul" Sauvignon Blanc will just keep getting better over the 4-7 years.
Critical Acclaim
95pts Robert Parker
The expressive, aromatic and intensely varietal 2021 Sauvignon Blanc Cipreses Vineyard comes from vines at four kilometers from the sea and has a strong sea influence, and the cool climate (in a cool year) gives the wine a salty twist. This fermented and matured with lees for a short while in stainless steel and was bottled early without adding acidity or being clarified. Yet the wine is clean and bright, pungent, with strong herbal notes. It has good ripeness, 13.5% alcohol and balancing acidity (7.88 grams). It reveals a refreshing palate, finishing dry and long. 25,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in July 2021.
