It’s always important that we review the big names here at Australian Wine & Drinks Review, and in Australian Sauvignon Blanc terms, they don’t come much more widely appreciated than the Shaw + Smith Sauvignon Blanc. This ’23 version is a big punchy wine from the get-go – a perfectly delineated ride of grassy passionfruit and gooseberry varietal character, with a slightly sour, big-time intense palate that punches hard with its tangy green passionfruit force. There’s a bit of Warhead intensity in the sour citrus fruit intensity, and it’s not meant to be complex, but man it’s an impressive statement of flavor punchiness.
