Tasting Notes

The 2024 vintage from Gundlach Bundschu’s historic Rhinefarm Estate in Sonoma Valley showcases the estate’s long tradition with Gewurztraminer, a varietal first planted there in 1858. This wine opens with expressive aromatics of grapefruit, tangerine, lychee, and fresh-cut flowers, layered with coriander, candied ginger, allspice, and dragon fruit. On the palate, it is full-bodied yet completely dry, with bright acidity that frames flavors of pear, citrus zest, and subtle tropical notes, leading to a clean, refreshing finish. Its structure and spice make it particularly well-suited to food pairings, especially with dishes that carry heat or rich seasoning. Recommended pairings include Indian beef vindaloo, Moroccan tagines with plum and apricot, miso-marinated black cod, or Southeast Asian cuisine where ginger, chili, and lemongrass shine. It also works beautifully with aromatic cheeses and lighter poultry dishes, offering a balance that enhances both savory and sweet-spiced flavors.
