Vina Maquis 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon
Tasting Notes
The 2019 vintage of Viña Maquis Cabernet Sauvignon from Chile’s Colchagua Valley is a blend dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon with small portions of Cabernet Franc, Carménère, and Petit Verdot. In the glass, it shows a deep garnet color with clarity and brightness. The nose reveals black cherries, charred oak, and subtle herbal notes, alongside hints of white pepper and bay leaf. On the palate, it is full-bodied with firm yet elegant tannins, offering flavors of ripe black cherries, strawberries, grilled bell peppers, cocoa, and forest floor, with a touch of anise on the finish. The wine’s acidity provides freshness, while the clay-rich soils of the vineyard contribute to its voluptuous texture and harmonious balance.
This Cabernet Sauvignon pairs exceptionally well with grilled meats such as steak, lamb, or pork ribs, where its tannic structure complements the protein and fat. It also works beautifully with roasted vegetables, hearty stews, and aged cheeses, particularly those with nutty or earthy profiles. For those who enjoy bold flavors, pairing it with dishes seasoned with herbs like rosemary or thyme enhances the wine’s savory character.
