The 2023 Napa Valley Merlot from Switchback Ridge is a luxurious and expressive wine, crafted from 92% Merlot and 8% Petite Sirah sourced from the Peterson Family Vineyard in Calistoga. Aged for 18 months in 100% French oak, it reveals a deep crimson hue that hints at its richness. The nose is vibrant and complex, offering layers of ripe black cherry, dark plum, and blackberry, elevated by floral notes of dried violet and exotic spices like cardamom and cedar. On the palate, the wine is plush and concentrated, with black fruit flavors seamlessly interwoven with bittersweet chocolate and a savory touch of Mediterranean spice. Silky tannins and lively acidity provide balance and finesse, while lingering notes of mocha and toasted marshmallow carry through to a long, elegant finish.
