The backstory? Steve Hearst, great-grandson of the legendary William Randolph Hearst, and Jim Saunders, an accomplished businessman who was born and raised in Paso Robles, met at a Hearst Cancer Research fundraiser at which Saunders purchased a Hearst Ranch tour. In 2010 Jim bought into the ranch to establish "Hearst Ranch Winery" and the wines have been winning awards since their first releases. A fully functioning ranch located across from the famous Hearst Castle, it also produces grain fed beef, olive oils, almonds an many other fantastic foodstuffs.
The "Randolph" is an untraditional blend (23% Cabernet Sauvignon, 23% Petit Verdot, 23% Petite Sirah, 23% Tempranillo, 7% Malbec, 1% Zinfandel) that has a harmonious ease about it. With a dense, dark color and supple mouthfeel, this versatile wine over-delivers at every turn. The nose has an unmistakablespice courtesy of the Bordeaux varietals and jammy, lush flavors on the palate. The ripe flavor profile allows this wine to be sipped as an aperitif while the plush weight on the palate makes it a perfect food wine as well.
