The Futo OV/SL 2018 Proprietary Red is a commanding and impeccably balanced Napa Valley blend that co-ferments fruit from the Oakville and Stags Leap Districts, showcasing the synergy between these two iconic terroirs. Deep purple in color, the wine opens with an arresting bouquet of crème de cassis, graphite, wildflowers, crushed stone, and hints of new leather. On the palate, it delivers a full-bodied and concentrated experience, with reserved yet focused energy, building tannins, and a mineral-driven finish that speaks to its hillside origins. Structurally, it combines powdery tannins with soaring aromatics of rose petal, red cherry, lavender, and blood orange, creating a wine that saturates the senses while maintaining purity and finesse. Composed of 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 14% Cabernet Franc, 4% Petit Verdot, and 2% Merlot, and bottled unfined and unfiltered, the 2018 OV/SL has earned critical acclaim, including a stellar 97+ points from Jeb Dunnuck, who praised its longevity and class, and 99 points from James Suckling, who highlighted its velvety texture, luxurious depth, and minute-long finish.
