Domaine Franck Millet 2023 Sancerre Rouge

$ 2999

Nestled in the famous village of Bué, Domaine Franck Millet is a premier family-owned estate where passion and tradition span generations. While many enthusiasts know the estate for its vibrant white Sancerre, Franck and his wife Betty give equal devotion to their limited plantings of Pinot Noir. Grown on steep, clay-limestone hilltops, their grapes undergo strict hand-sorting and are carefully aged in a balanced combination of stainless steel tanks and seasoned oak barrels. This thoughtful winemaking yields a classic Loire Valley red defined by fresh fruit expression, elegance, and pure terroir rather than heavy oak extraction.

The Domaine Franck Millet 2023 Sancerre Rouge is a light-to-medium-bodied red wine crafted from 100% Pinot Noir, which is grown on the estate's clay-rich soils in the village of Bué. On the nose, this elegant vintage opens with fragrant aromas of morello cherries, fresh red berries, and subtle hints of violets, underscored by a light dusting of black pepper and cardamone. The palate is fresh and juicy, delivering a vibrant attack of crunchy red fruits like currants and cherry stones. Backed by the signature mineral tension of its Upper Loire origin, the wine is well-balanced, matching its bright acidity with fine, structured tannins that have been beautifully smoothed out by careful aging in a mix of stainless steel and oak barrels.
Thanks to its lively acidity and delicate tannic framework, this Sancerre Rouge serves as a highly versatile food partner. It pairs exceptionally well with lighter meats such as roasted chicken with fresh herbs, sliced rabbit, or grilled pork loin. For a more unconventional pairing, its bright red fruit character and mineral finish effortlessly cut through the fat of meaty and oily fish, making it a perfect match for a grilled salmon steak cooked with butter. Additionally, it provides an excellent counterpoint to earthy wild game or a classic platter of soft, creamy cheeses. To fully maximize its fresh fruit flavors, it is best served slightly chilled at around 14°C to 16°C (57°F to 61°F).
