Founded by the Bournet-Lapostolle family of Grand Marnier fame, Lapostolle cemented South America's place on the global fine-wine stage when its iconic Clos Apalta was named Wine Spectator’s Wine of the Year—a historic first for the continent. Seeking to push the boundaries of Apalta’s world-class terroir even further, the family carved Clos du Lican out of an eastern-facing, granite-strewn mountain slope just five kilometers away. This radical, high-altitude site is dedicated almost entirely to Syrah, farmed with painstaking detail to capture a darker, more dramatic side of the valley. Given the brutal, stony terrain and exacting production standards, Clos du Lican is crafted in extremely limited quantities. To underscore its rarity and collector-grade status, just 4543 bottles (BOTTLES, not cases) were crafted for 2020 and each bottle is individually numbered.

The 2020 Clos du Lican Apalta Syrah is a masterclass in concentration, power, and high-elevation elegance. Made from 100% Syrah aged over two years in French oak, this vintage opens with an brooding, complex bouquet of blue fruit, black cherry, dried tarragon, and white pepper, accented by hints of violet and crushed granite. The palate is deep and multi-layered, where dense layers of blackberry and dark plum meet savory undertones of grilled herbs and a touch of wild game. Exceptionally polished tannins provide a seamless, velvety structure that carries the wine into an ultra-long, lifted finish framed by fine oak and vibrant natural acidity. Highly allocated and built for the long haul, it stands as a monumental expression of Chilean Syrah.
