Domaine Les Grands Bois Les 3 Soeurs Cotes Du Rhone
Domaine Les Grand Bois is a family-owned winery in the Southern Rhône, deeply rooted in tradition and committed to organic farming. The estate was founded in 1920 in Sainte-Cécile-les-Vignes by Albert Farjon, and it is currently run by his niece, Mireille Besnardeau, and her husband, Marc. The 47-hectare vineyard is certified organic since 2011, and its old vines are spread across a mosaic of plots in various prized appellations, including Côtes du Rhône, Cairanne, and Rasteau.
The Les 3 Soeurs Côtes du Rhône Rouge (which translates to "The 3 Sisters," named for the Besnardeaus' three daughters) is the domaine's fresh, approachable entry-level wine. It is a classic, fruit-forward blend predominantly of Grenache, Syrah, and a touch of Carignan, sourced from vines that are up to 60 years old. The wine is made to emphasize purity of fruit, undergoing fermentation and aging exclusively in stainless steel and cement tanks, thereby avoiding new oak to preserve its vibrant character. The resulting 2022 vintage, known for its concentration in the Rhône, offers a full-bodied, silky texture with rich notes of dark cherry, crushed raspberry, peppery spice, and the trademark savory, herbaceous aromas of the local garrigue. Its balance and freshness make it an exceptional value and a versatile pairing for a wide range of fall cuisine.
