Some really fun stuff in this latest Great Value Mixed Case, including new vintages of some old favorites.
Ravel & Stitch Central Coast Cabernet Sauvignon (California) - Ravel & Stitch Cabernet Sauvignon leads with aromas of classic black cherry and cassis, complimented by a creamy oakiness that showcases dark chocolate and hardwood. On the palate, these aromas are followed by notes of black currants and juicy notes of red cherry and plum. The oak profile holds up to the fruit all the way to the finish, showing touches of espresso bean and nutmeg.
Querceto Toscana Rosso (Italy) - A blend of Sangiovese, Syrah, and Merlot that sees 8 months of aging in French oak, it offers up attractive aromas and flavors of plum, dark raspberry, rosemary, earth, and spice. Plump and juicy but moderately complex and layered, this is ideal for pizza or pasta with red sauce.
Heartland "Spice Trader" Shiraz (Australia) - Barossa superstar winemaker Ben Glaetzer is one of our favorite Australian winemakers. Back in 1990 he began to notice the high quality fruit coming out of the Langhorne Creek region and along with some other industry veterans established Heartland. The aromas are of plump Ribena inspired blackcurrant with hints of smoked almonds and quince. Lush black fruits spiral around the palate leaving echoes of cinnamon and cherry sauce.
Bodegas Arraez "Cannalas" Monastrell/Tempranillo (Spain) - Canallas Tinto is sourced from vines grown on the clay and calcareous soils of La Font de la Figuera, at an altitude of 2000 feet above sea level on the outskirts of Valencia. American oak barrel aging for 4 months provides a roundness seldom found in such an inexpensive red. The brilliant violet color leads to aromas of cherry, ripe strawberries, vanilla, and cacao. It’s wonderfully juicy on the palate, featuring notes of dark berry, blueberry, vanilla, and spice, all lingering nicely through the lengthy finish.
Vimioso Tinto (Portugal) - Conde Vimioso Vinho Tinto is a smooth, medium-bodied red, typical of the Tejo. The bright ruby color leads to a super fresh, velvety palate of dark red berries, black cherry and gentle spice. This vibrant beam of dark red fruits leads through the palate to a wonderfully long and clean finish. A classic Tejo blend of Touriga Nacional, Castelão, Cabernet Sauvignon, & Syrah.
Root:1 Pinot Noir (Chile) - Root:1 is the first in Chile to be certified 100% sustainable by Wines of Chile and the first winery in the country to adopt carbon offset measures. Rich aromas of wild strawberries, raspberries, and a hint of cherry. Soft spice notes and vanilla add complexity. Medium-bodied and bright, the fresh acidity combines with ripe fruit flavors and smooth tannins for a well-rounded palate and lengthy finish.
