We've carried a number of wines from Domaine Joncier recently and have really enjoyed their organic, biodynamic and Demeter certified wines from the Lirac district of the Rhone Valley.  The Mourvedre based blend called Les Muses has always been a standout among the lineup but the $35+ price tag kept it from being a fast mover over off the shelf.  The distributor has a big shipment of new wines from Europe coming in soon and needs warehouse space, so he made us a fantastic deal on the Les Muses.

The feisty, vivacious Marine Roussel took over the family domaine from her father Pierre, an agronomist & winemaker who started Domaine du Joncier in 1964.  Marine joined her father at the domaine in 1989 and implemented many changes which resulted in big improvements in the vineyards and the resulting wines.  The biggest change was the switch to organic farming and they have now achieved Demeter Certification, France's highest biodynamic/organic farming classification.

Les Muses is one of the domaine's top and smallest production wines, a brambly, leather-touched blend of Mourvedre and Syrah (90%/10%).  Full bodied and penetrating in blackberry and cassis flavors, it highlights rich fruit against savory shades of crushed earth and mint, sharply framed by a peppery, herbal edge.

This brambly, leather-touched red is a blend of organically grown Mourvèdre and Syrah.
