Galerna Verdejo

Tucked into the high plains of Las Pedroñeras in Cuenca, Spain, Punctum Family Vineyards has been coaxing character out of vines at 800 meters of elevation since 2005, when three siblings set out to build a winery that treated its land as a living thing rather than a factory floor. On clay-limestone soils shaped by centuries of winemaking dating back to Roman times, the family farms organically and biodynamically, running their operation on renewable energy and recycled water in pursuit of wines that give as much back to the earth as they take. Their Galerna label, meaning "storm" or "gust of wind" in Spanish, captures that spirit in the glass: a bright, easy-drinking Verdejo and a soft, red-berried Garnacha, both fermented gently and bottled with a light touch of sulfites, made for pouring generously and drinking without ceremony.

Bright, lifted, and wonderfully pure, Galerna’s Verdejo opens with a breeze of citrus—lime zest, white grapefruit, and a hint of green apple—carried by the same cool winds that give the winery its name. The palate is crisp and refreshing yet surprisingly textured, with notes of pear skin, fennel frond, and a subtle saline snap that keeps everything lively. Its organically farmed fruit shows in the clarity of flavor: clean, vibrant, and honest, finishing with a gentle herbal echo that invites another sip.
