Tasting Notes

The Ca' Brusa 2013 Riserva Bricco San Pietro Vigna di Vai Barolo is an elegant, highly structured DOCG Italian red wine crafted entirely from 100% Nebbiolo grapes. Sourced from 45-year-old vines in the prestigious Bricco San Pietro cru within Monforte d’Alba, its complex character is shaped by a prolonged 30-day submerged cap maceration and rigorous oak aging.

In the glass, this single-vineyard Riserva displays a brilliant, intense garnet red color accented by slight orange reflections typical of mature Nebbiolo. The bouquet opens with a broad and distinct olfactory profile featuring layered aromas of plum, sweet dark cherry, dried roses, and violets, interwoven with complex secondary notes of licorice, mint, earthy leather, and tobacco. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, warm, and exceptionally harmonious. Its powerful, firm tannins and vibrant acidity provide an elegant mouthfeel and ensure remarkable longevity, driving toward a deeply persistent and pleasant finish.

A classic expression built for the cellar table, this robust Barolo requires rich, structural pairings that can stand up to its intense tannins and high acidity. It pairs beautifully with hearty main courses, roasted red or white meats, and savory game dishes like wild boar stew. It is also an excellent match for authentic Piedmontese specialties, such as Brasato al Barolo (beef braised in red wine) or fresh tajarin pasta tossed in a rich meat ragù. Additionally, its depth harmonizes wonderfully with earthy, truffle-based risottos and complex, aged cheeses like Castelmagno or Toma. For an optimal tasting experience, serve this wine between 55–60°F and uncork it at least an hour prior to dining.
