Maxville Lake Wines 2022 "The High Valley" Cabernet Sauvignon
WINEMAKER NOTES
Chiles Valley Cabernet grapes are a recurrent source for many of Napa’s top producers. That’s because the area lies East of Rutherford at elevations ranging from 600-1200 feet, and it’s cooler than the Valley floor, providing ideal conditions for the grapes to retain their natural acidity. So, if you like other high-altitude Napa Cabs (Howell Mtn, Diamond Mtn, Mt Veeder...), you'll really like the Maxville, especially for this price.
Maxville owns over 1000 acres of land in Chiles Valley that is part of Napa Valley Land Trust nature preserve, with only 100 acres planted to vineyards. Some of their Cabernet vines are 50+ years olds, making them some of Napa's oldest and these old vines are supplying them with spectacularly complex fruit.
The blend is 89% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Petite Sirah, 1.5% Petit Verdot, and 1.5% Merlot, Dark opulent ruby and garnet hues with tantalizing aromas of black currant jam, earthy and ripe dark fruits layered with hints of vanilla, cassis and black pepper. The palate is full-bodied with finely integrated tannins and acidity, showing notes of wild blackberries, tobacco leaves and cedar. One of the most delicious and silky Napa Cabs we tasted recently that can be had for less than $45!
