The 2022 Exit West Mount Family Ranch Estate Red Blend is a powerful and elegant Bordeaux-inspired blend crafted by winemaker Patrick Sullivan. Grown at a 2,400-foot elevation in the volcanic, iron-rich soils of the Red Hills AVA in Lake County, California, this inaugural vintage showcases an aromatic nose bursting with blackberry pie, cassis, dark plum, mulberry, star anise, and subtle violet notes. On the palate, the wine delivers a full-bodied, mouth-coating richness filled with layers of black plum, lingonberry, vanilla cream, bittersweet chocolate, cinnamon, and a distinct volcanic minerality. It is aged for 22 months in 50% new French oak, contributing polished, structured tannins and a long, savory, spiced finish. Given its bold structure, rich texturing, and firm grip, this dense mountain wine pairs beautifully with hearty, robust dishes such as grilled lamb sirloin, a seared ribeye steak, or braised short ribs, and benefit significantly from being decanted before serving to unlock its full complexity.
