Domaine du Salvard Cheverny 2025 Loire Blanc

Domaine du Salvard has been a bedrock producer in the central Loire Valley since 1898, spanning five generations of the Delaille family. Located in the village of Fougères-sur-Bièvre, the estate is currently helmed by brothers Emmanuel and Thierry Delaille, who continue their family tradition of crafting pure, terroir-focused wines. Practicing sustainable viticulture across their estate vineyards, the Delailles emphasize clean, estate-bottled precision and extended lees aging in temperature-controlled stainless steel, making Salvard one of the most respected and dependable producers in the eastern Touraine district.

Situated on the south bank of the Loire River, Cheverny was officially granted AOC status in 1993 and occupies a unique stylistic niche in the region. Unlike neighboring appellations such as Sancerre or Pouilly-Fumé that produce 100 percent Sauvignon Blanc, Cheverny AOC regulations require a blend for its white wines. The appellation mandates a foundation of Sauvignon Blanc to deliver aromatic lift and laser-like acidity, rounded out by a mandatory proportion of Chardonnay to add mid-palate weight, texture, and breadth. The region's complex soils of silica sand, clay, and underlying chalky limestone endow the wines with a flinty minerality and vibrant energy.

The 2025 Domaine du Salvard Cheverny Blanc features the estate's classic blend of 85 percent Sauvignon Blanc and 15 percent Chardonnay, sourced from vines ranging between 10 and 65 years of age. Vinified entirely in stainless steel with a brief cold soak prior to fermentation and aged on its fine lees without oak intervention, the 2025 vintage presents an expressive nose of lime zest, lemon curd, passion fruit, and delicate white flowers. On the palate, the vibrant, crisp energy of the Sauvignon Blanc is seamlessly complemented by the fleshier orchard fruit and subtle weight of the Chardonnay, backed by a limestone-driven minerality that carries through to a long, clean finish.
