BR Cohn Silver Label Cabernet Sauvignon (California) - B.R. Cohn Winery is a 90-acre estate nestled between the Mayacamas Mountain Range and Sonoma Mountain in the heart of Sonoma Valley. Founded by Bruce Cohn, who previously was a rock and roll manager, B.R. Cohn has been hand-crafting wines and rocking out since 1984. Aromatics of the wine unfold with tea leaf, black fruit and leather. Spices also wrap around the nose while on the palate suggestions of currant, blackberry and bing cherry fruits evolve, becoming a spice rack of cinnamon, nutmeg and clove. A touch of vanilla and mocha mingles with more earthy notes of tobacco leaf and herbs. As the wine opens up, the tannins—while present—integrate into the finish.
Bodegas Las Bas Garnacha (Spain)
Las Bas Garnacha is cultivated in D.O Calatayud. Located at approximately 2,952 feet above
sea level, the winery is a beautiful juxtaposition of traditional and modern. The winery takes
great care of their old vines by dry farming and hand harvesting grapes from their organically farmed mountain vineyards. A bright, red cherry. Clean powerful aromas of mixed red fruits that offer a lively palate. Soft in the mouth with balanced structure and a long, elegant finish.
Montenero Puglia Primitivo (Italy) - A tasting favorite that sold out quickly and we've anxiously been awaiting more from the distributor. Primitivo is Italy's version of Zinfandel but they typically stay true to "old world" style, being much more elegant and vibrant than California versions of the grape. Offering spicy, plum, prune, fig fruit and savory dried herb. The palate is soft, ripe and warm with black cherries, chocolate, balsamic notes with a touch of acidity poking through a low tannin finish.
Domaine Pontbriand Vaucluse (France) - This fabulous red is from the southern Franch region of Vaucluse and is a blend of 40% Grenache, 40% Caladoc, Syrah 10%, Marselan 10%. Crafted from the estate’s thirty-five years old vines, they are traditionally vinified to produce a wine which is immediate in its impact: Sumptuous fruit abounds from start to finish, from heady aromas, tinged with violets, to the flavors engraved with a plump generosity, lasting all the way to a smooth and savory finish.
Barbanera Chianti (Italy) - Barbanera is a family business founded in 1938 that found a perfect location in the Valdichiana area, on the slopes of Monte Cetona, surrounded by green hills and vineyards. Today the wine making and stewardship of the land is an art that deeply felt by the 4 generation of Barbaneras to run the winery, brothers Marco and Paolo Barbanera, The deep red color of this young wine exhibits strong purplish hues in the glass while the fruity and vinous flavors weave together with enticing notes of violet, forest berries and cherry. This wine has a balanced, dry and slightly tannic palate, giving it a nice approachability and finesse. It's excellent to pair with tasty pasta dishes, roasted red and white meats of all kind and soft cheeses.
Chiara Pinot Noir (Germany) - This is an unexpectedly exciting Pinot Noir out of Germany that can be enjoyed almost anytime. Grown in the Pfalz region, the second largest German wine-growing region which is made up of two areas, Mittelhaardt-Deutsche Weinstraße and Südliche Weinstraße. As with most of Germany, the region is primarily known for white varietals like Riesling, Kerner, Muller-Thurgau as well as international varieties like Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay. Over the last decade or so though, red varietals have become increasingly important and some fantastic Pinot Noirs are starting to emerge.
Like this fantastic bargain from Chiara that is perfect for many occasions, from Tuesday night pizza night to weekend barbecues outside, this wines versatility will make you want to grab it again and again. With notes of fresh blueberry, raspberry, black cherry, and spice, what is not to like. With its low tannins and relatively low ABV (12.5%) it is also great with a slight chill or pop the cork at room temperature, whichever is your preference; like we said, it's versatile.
