Tasting Notes

The 2013 Keenan Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon from Spring Mountain District in Napa Valley is a blend of 80% Cabernet Sauvignon Clone 7 from the “Upper Bowl” estate vineyard, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon Clone 15 from the “Big K” vineyard, and 5% Merlot from the “Mailbox” vineyard. The wine shows piercing aromatics with notes of blackberry, black currant, mocha, tobacco, and oak, supported by earthy and mineral undertones. On the palate, it is full-bodied and saturated, with a rich mouthfeel and multi-layered finish. A distinctly savory note emerges on the finish, a hallmark of the 2013 vintage, giving the wine both depth and elegance.
Food pairings for this wine should emphasize dishes that match its intensity and structure. Roasted lamb, venison, or prime rib highlight its dark fruit and earthy character, while braised short ribs or beef Wellington bring out its luxurious mouthfeel. Duck breast with a reduction sauce or grilled entrecôte with roasted onions and peppers harmonize with its savory finish. Aged cheeses such as Comté, Manchego, or sharp cheddar provide a complementary counterpoint to its mocha and tobacco notes, making them excellent accompaniments.
