Rudi Pichler 2024 Gruner Veltliner Federspiel

$ 3499 $ 4299

The Pichler family has been deeply rooted in the village of Wösendorf within Austria's prestigious Wachau since 1731, passing down generations of viticultural expertise before Rudolph Pichler III took the helm of the estate in 1997. Operating under the guiding philosophy that he is a wine caretaker rather than a winemaker, Pichler commands a meticulous approach in the vineyards to ensure that each bottling serves as an unmanipulated mirror of its unique terroir. By enforcing strictly low yields, avoiding botrytis completely in his dry styles, and steering clear of malolactic fermentation or intrusive oak usage, he crafts elite, chiseled whites celebrated for their laser-like precision, crystalline purity, and immense structural longevity.

92pts James Suckling, 91pts Vinous

The Wachau Federspiel Grüner Veltliner highlights the incredible concentration and depth achievable from a smaller-yielding Austrian vintage. Sourced from a careful blend of valley floor, hillside, and high terraced vineyards across the estate, it opens with an expressive, highly aromatic bouquet of crisp green apple, yellow plum, fresh lemongrass, and a hallmark dust of white pepper. The barely medium-bodied palate delivers exceptional focus and physical tension, driving forward with vibrant citrus oil and crushed flint minerality before culminating in a remarkably clean, stony, and bone-dry finish.
