Tasting Notes
Vega Sicilia’s 2018 Pintia from Toro comes from a cooler, rainier vintage that allowed the estate to craft a wine with unusual tension and freshness for the region. According to producer notes, the grapes were harvested between September 20 and October 7, yielding a wine that is described as the most vertical and fruit‑driven Pintia, shaped by precise extraction in their newly updated fermentation facility. The profile opens with vibrant aromas of blackberries, blue fruit, violets, wet stone, and a touch of mocha, followed by a palate that critics describe as sleek, fresh, silky, and impeccably balanced. Despite its 15% alcohol, the wine feels lifted and mineral, with ripe yet structured tannins and a long, elegant finish. Its combination of fruit purity and tension makes it an excellent partner for grilled lamb, roasted pork, charred ribeye, venison, or earthy dishes like mushroom ragù and aged Manchego, all of which complement its depth and freshness.
