Tasting Notes

This vintage hails from a 2.6-hectare parcel of the Adrianna Vineyard in Gualtallary, Mendoza, where ancient riverbed soils of oval white stones impart a distinctive stony, mineral character to the wine. The 2013 River Stones Malbec opens with lifted floral aromas of violets and lavender, layered over ripe red and black fruits like cherry, plum, and blackberry. On the palate, it is concentrated yet racy, with lighter tannins and a tart cherry acidity that gives it a vibrant, mouthwatering edge. Subtle notes of schist, graphite, and spice add complexity, while the wine’s dry, ashy finish underscores its finesse and aging potential. Fermented with wild yeasts in oak barrels and aged for 24 months in French oak, it offers a seamless integration of fruit, earth, and oak. This Malbec is a superb match for grilled lamb, duck breast, or beef tenderloin, and it also complements earthy dishes like mushroom risotto or roasted root vegetables. Aged Manchego or blue cheese enhances its savory depth and minerality.
