Winter (Jan/Feb) Mixed Case Sampler 2025
Fraga do Corvo Godello (Monterrei, Spain) - The Monterrei DO takes its name from a forest very close to the winery that is usually frequented by crows. This bottling is single varietal of Godello, the queen grape in Monterrei, and rests for 6 to 7 months on its lees in order to gain complexity. Thus, we find a very fragrant white, with herbaceous aromatic notes, leading into flavors of fruits such as apples and citrus complimented by notes such as jasmine and mimosa. On the palate it is unctuous and enveloping as well as fresh and long.
Salt Wine Co. Pinot Gris (Willamette Valley, OR) - Aromas of white flowers, spiced pears, slate, white pepper, and peaches. The palate is layered with notes of spice, sweet peach, candied ginger, and orange cream with mouthwatering acidity.
Oak Farm Sauvignon Blanc (Lodi, CA) - This Sauvignon Blanc captures fruity aromas of citrus, mango, and a touch of lime mixed with pyrazines and earthy characteristics like freshly cut grass and hay. On the palate, these citrus notes are complemented by tropical fruit flavors of guava and passion-fruit. The wine is balanced with crisp acidity and juicy flavors with a lingering finish. Named as one of Wine Enthusiast’s Top 100 Wine Values, 92pts.
Pierre Chermette Beaujolais Nouveau Rosé (Burgundy, France) - Beaujolais Nouveau Rosé! It’s as youthful and fresh as a wine can get, with very subtle red fruit flavors taking a humble back seat to magnificent peppery minerals and zippy acidity. One of the most purely refreshing wines we’ve tasted all year, and of course made with Pierre Chermette’s exacting organic, minimalist standards.
Bodegas Zarate Fontecon Tinto (Galicia, Spain) – The winery produces less than 175 6-packs of this amazing red wine from an area of Spain primarily known for white wines. Zárate Fontecón Tinto is a blend of 70% Espadeiro and 30% Caiño Tinto, named for the plot from which it comes, Fontecón is very much a representation of its site. Poor thin soils over granite produce a wine that is chock full of fleshy red fruits and minerally salty notes with a nose that's surprisingly rich and seductive. This whole-bunch juice is loaded with stemmy flavors of red fruits, cracked black pepper, and freshly cut herbs. Mouthfeel is very fresh, brisk, with tart fruit skin grip and predictably high coastal acidity.
Ca Momi Rosso (California) – This used to be our best-selling red wine, so we’re excited to see it back with a new distributor and from the fantastic 2022 vintage too! A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Zinfandel, Merlot and Petite Sirah, it boasts complex aromas of raspberry, plum, balsamic and coffee. On the palate, it shows off abundant flavors of ripe red berries, cherries, and hints of vanilla backed by an array of oaky notes including caramel, vanilla, and cigar box.
Martino Tributo Morcelo Malbec (Mendoza, Argentina) - Sourced from the flatter vineyards south and east of Mendoza city, where the malbec grows on heavier clay loam soils that have washed down off the Andes for millennia. The elevation is still 700+ metres, but the style is warmer and richer with intense cherry and black plum, dusted in espresso.
Wellsley Farm Tri-County Pinot Noir (California) – 91pts from Wine Enthusiast, this is an amazingly rich and complex Pinot Noir for the price. This wine is rich, complex, with aromas of red plum, raspberries, dark strawberry, allspice on the nose. The palate is juicy crabapple-orange, Fuyu persimmon, yellow raisin, yellow plum sliding into dried florals, clove, spiced orange slices.
Ride & Ridden California Cabernet (California) - Big, bold, juicy and ready-drinking, this blockbuster Cabernet of the West offers up the best and most expressive that California’s premier Cabernet Sauvignon appellations have to offer. The wine is dense and offers aromatics of shaved cocoa, blackberry and worn leather.
Frias “Lady of the Dead” Red Blend (Napa Valley, CA) – This 1300 case production red is a blend of Cabernet & Syrah, with small amounts of Tempranillo and Graciano features a dark fruit core of bramble berries, Morello cherry, candied fruits, vanilla, cedar, allspice and tilled earth along with notes of leather. The soft fruit entry comes with spiced dried fruits, a nice acid and tannin balance to support the medium weighted body and fruits that linger and gently gain weight. The bright plum-laced concentrated fruit finishes with an uptick of spices and toasted oak.
Babylonstoren “Babel” Red Blend (Western Cape, South Africa) - Babel Red is a "kitchen sink" red blend of Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Malbec, Petit Verdot, Cabernet Franc, Pinotage, Mourvedre, Grenache, Barbera, and Marselan aged for 12 months in a blend of new and old French oak. Garnet black in color with aromas and flavors of dark chocolate bacon bar, peanut butter, hint of coffee, and buttered biscuit with a supple, bright, fruity medium body and a tingling, appealing, medium-long finish that presents nuances of grilled green pepper, cassis, and creme brulee with dusty, earthy tannins and moderate oak flavor.
Bodegas Habla "Habla del Silencio..." (Tierra del Extremadura, Spain) - The new vintage is finally here, and is thankfully just as great as last year! Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon & Tempranillo, Habla has garnet, intense cherry with violet hues, characteristic of all Habla. In the glass it is bright and clean, with a dense tear. Intense and complex, with hints of cherry, blackberry, mint, pepper and graphite. It is a sweet wine, fresh and fleshy at the same time, with abundant fruit notes and cherry liqueur bonbon.
