Thomas Rivers Brown Casa Piena Library 750ml

$ 174.99
Pairing the robust opulence of Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon with the graceful sophistication of a prized Bordeaux, Casa Piena is crafted to honor its Yountville roots while achieving a seamless balance between fruit and the earth. The stunning uniqueness of Yountville Cabernet Sauvignon is that though it is able to realize voluptuous ripeness, the resulting wines nonetheless reflect nuanced elements of cool climate elegance and soil-driven character. As a result, Casa Piena is receiving rave reviews for its powerful expressiveness. It evokes Bordelaise characteristics of ripe red and black fruit, spice and minerality, without compromising its Napa Valley heritage.
Vintage Notes:
2012 Coming from a vineyard in the Yountville region near the Kapcsandy estate, this wine is a beauty. A vivid expression of black-fruited Cabernet Sauvignon with terrific purity, a multi-dimensional mouthfeel, an opaque purple color and full-bodied power, the tannins are sweet and the wine large-scaled, rich, pure and well-balanced. 94 Wine Advocate

2013 | This wine emerges from the southern Yountville sector of Napa Valley from a vineyard on State Lane. Dense purple with notes of blueberry and blackberry liqueur, spring flowers, graphite and licorice. The wine is impressively deep, medium to full-bodied with substantial tannin and structure, befitting most classic 2013s. 92 Wine Advocate

2014 | The 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon is slightly darker, creamier and richer than the 2013 tasted alongside it. Dark red cherry, purplish stone fruit, lavender, pine and mint add aromatic lift throughout. The 2014 is a gorgeous Casa Piena that will drink well pretty much upon release, as the suave silky tannins make the wine virtually impossible to resist, even in its youth. 93 Vinous

2015 | The 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon is gorgeous. Lifted, floral and beautifully perfumed, the 2015 has come together nicely since I last tasted it. The 2015 has so much to offer. Specifically, it is remarkably nuanced for such an overly ripe, racy wine. A rush of sweet red berry, kirsch, mint and rose petal graces the expressive, inviting finish. This is a terrific showing from proprietor Carmen Policy and winemaker Thomas Rivers Brown. 94 Vinous

2016 | Casa Piena's 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon has turned out beautifully. I can't remember tasting a vintage of Casa Piena with this much finesse, nuance and pure class. Silky tannins let the fruit shine in this delicious, compelling Cabernet from Carmen Policy and Casa Piena. 96 Vinous

2017 | In the glass, the hue can be best described as a saturated purple with a dark violet rim. Aromas swell from the glass, inviting you in closer with notes of kirsch, purple lilac, baking spices, clove, and spearmint. The palate experience is dense with waves of flavors that suggest black cherry, plum reduction, vanilla husk, currant and finely ground baker’s chocolate. While the core of the palate is defined by opulence, the periphery has a defined acidity that maintains a level of freshness throughout the trajectory of the wine and finishes clean with tart red fruit and floral notes. Thomas Brown, Winemaker
