Seppeltsfield 2021 Barossa Grenache
This 2021 Seppeltsfield Barossa Grenache is the result of an evolution of winemaking style and farming the estate’s prized Great Terraced Vineyard. The harvest of this superb, old vine Grenache fruit once solely fed Seppeltsfield’s fortified wines (if you’re a fan of Port style wines, we highly recommend their Para 18yr Tawny), however a shift to producing more un-fortified wines led to retaining parcels of lighter, bright fruit to be used in two new Grenache bottlings. This is achieved through the selection of blocks and rows on the mid and lower levels of the vineyard, which are less exposed and moderated by cooling gully breezes. The vineyard is entirely bush vine planted which dictates only hand pruning and hand picking. The Barossa Grenache is made in a ‘joven’ style – released young and without any oak maturation. Vinified in the winery’s historic 1888 Gravity Cellar – which has been highly regarded for its small batch format and gentle maceration production for over 130 years. Medium bodied, with a core of pure fruit and lithe tannin it is vibrant with crimson and blood red hues, Melange of cherry, cranberry and red currants; lifted and pure. Deeply fruited with an all spice and Campari complexity. Deeply fruited mid palate with raspberry, cranberry, red cherry and complex notes of dark chocolate, complemented with fine cocoa tannins.
