They call it Syrah in France, Shiraz in Australia and South Africa and other wine regions often pick the name that reflects they style of wine they've crafted - Big and bold, call it Shiraz; refined and elegant, go with Syrah.  Either way, this tasty, versatile deserves to be in your wine glass!

Vincent Paris Syrah (Rhone Valley, France) - Vincent Paris is a rising star in Cornas, and this remarkable value in Northern Rhone Syrah is a great introduction to the wines of this very talented young winemaker. All the fruit here comes from young vine, organically-farmed Crozes-Hermitage. It sees no oak, spending 9 months in stainless steel. Vibrant red fruit flavors, floral high notes, meaty savory undertones, and hints of black pepper marry beautifully together...medium-bodied with bright acidity, this is a delicious and very drinkable Syrah you can enjoy now.

Les Jamelles Syrah (Languedoc, France) - Syrah, a grape variety originating in the Rhone Valley that has become very popular internationally, thrives in the Languedoc region. Les Jamelles' verion is is a rich, powerful wine that combines aromas and flavors of red fruit and a touch of menthol with a refreshing finish reminiscent of forest undergrowth, walking a fine line between the Syrah and Shiraz style.

Klinker Brick "Farrah" Syrah (Lodi, CA) - Steve and Lori Felton, the owner of Klinker Brick Winery are 5th generation farmers. Their vines are primarily old vine Zinfandel and are planted along the Lodi Mokelumne River region and in the Clements Foothills. For over a century, the family has sold their premium, old vine fruit to benchmark Zinfandel producers until 2000 when Steve and Lori founded Klinker Brick Winery in Lodi, CA.  They also have a small 16 acre parcel called Farrah (after their daughter) planted to Syrah, from which this delicious wine comes from.  Aromas of ripe plum, cacao, and smoky oak with subtle earthy floral notes. The palate is greeted with bright and vibrant flavors of blackberry, anise and exotic spices. Supple tannins and superb balance lend structure to this full-bodied Syrah with a long, lingering finish.

Woop Woop Shiraz (Australia)  - Fully ripe Shiraz grapes from a number of South Australian wine regions were harvested at peak maturity, gently crushed, de-stemmed and fermented in small batches to maximize the extraction of color, aroma, and flavor. At the conclusion of fermentation, the wines were pressed, with the pressing combined to add structure and ripe tannin length.  A percentage of the wine was matured in American oak hogsheads, enhancing the typical black pepper spice, and providing extra length to the ripe juicy palate.

Shinas Estate "The Guilty" Shiraz (Southeast Australia) - Voluptuous cherry, vanilla and peppery spice aromas and full-bodied flavors packed with smoky vanillin oak, cherry and strawberry fruits, chocolate and mocha all wrapped up in a big, rich, velvety smooth package. A juicy wine with fine tannins, the pepper detected on the nose kicks in again to make a welcome re-appearance on the powerful finish. Made from low yielding old vines dating back to 1898 and aged in older French oak, the fruit is sourced from Mildura on the north west Victorian border.

Backsberg "Pumphouse" Shiraz (South Africa) - The Pumphouse, located high on the Backsberg property, is a humble concrete structure which plays an imperative role in day-to-day farm activities. The building epitomises Backsberg’s approach to winemaking, unassuming but extraordinary, hand crafted, organic & sustainable (certified carbon neutral).  On the nose expect old spice, cedar and vanilla aromas with the palate exhibiting a wonderful velvety depth, this is a powerhouse of a wine with flavors of ripe plum, black cherry, mulberry, liquorice and spiced fruit cake. A generous wine that just keeps giving as it opens up.
