When Orin Swift owner/winemaker David Phinney sold his "The Prisoner" label, the wine that made him famous around the world to lovers of bold and intensely flavored wines, he agreed to not make any similarly styled Zinfandel based blended wines for 8 years. When Dave was finally able to return to making Zinfandel, he did so in true David Phinney fashion, with the 2016 8 Years in the Desert, a wine that Dave called the "absolute best Zinfandel based wine he could make" and packaged it in special 8 pack cases with hand made collage labels. "The Best," with all it's special packaging and limited supply came at a price, $125 to be exact.
Dave's Winemaker's Notes: Heady aromas of brambly raspberry, black fig and peppercorn dominate; time in glass exposes more—dark chocolate, fennel and High Sierra forest floor. The palate is lush and opulent with blackberries, dark plums and currants. More flavors add to the quality of the blend—a visceral minerality and fresh Herbs de Provence. Fully integrated with puckering tannins, the wine bows out with finesse. BLEND: Zinfandel, Petite Sirah, Syrah. MATURATION: Aged for 8 months in French Oak, 30% New
