Mortellito 2023 "Cala Iancu" Bianco
Winemaker Notes
Mortellito Cala Iancu is a Sicilian white wine that stands out for its unique composition: 90% Grillo and 10% Catarratto. This wine comes from the renowned area of Noto, in Sicily, Italy, and has an alcohol content of 12%. It is an organic, artisanal, and vegan friendly wine, produced with great attention to sustainability and respect for the environment. The soil in which the vines grow is medium-textured limestone, giving the wine a particular minerality and freshness.
Mortellito is the name of the land of my roots. A two-hectare countryside where my great-grandparents lived in the early 1900s. Here I decided to embark on my journey as a winemaker, moving away from city life and its conventions to return to living the relationship with the land. A choice of love for nature and for a place I am in love with, which manages to enhance my greatest passions: the Earth and the Sea. The local wine culture has pushed me to search for genuine wines, made without any forcing and coming from organic farming. Today we have about 23 hectares. Our company is run in a family way by Dario, Carmelo, Turiddu, Guido, Matteo and Franzo who dedicate themselves to it daily, together with many friends who come to help us during the different phases of our work.
