This month’s case includes 1 bottle of each wine (3 whites, 1 rose & 8 reds):
Green Quartz Sauvignon Blanc (Chile) – Sourced from high altitude, hand-picked vineyards in Chile’s Casablanca Valley, this vibrant Sauvignon Blanc will appeal to both New Zealand and California Sauvignon Blanc lovers, as it deftly splits the difference between zippy, tangy NZ style grapefruit notes with tropical and grassy notes associated with California’s best Sauvignon Blancs.
Rootdown “Es Okay” Pinot Gris (California) - Produced in Mendocino County, California, this wine is a lighter, fruitier, and more accessible take on the orange style. 80%of the Pinot Gris grapes are pressed off the skins and fermented as juice, the remaining 20% are naturally fermented on the skins for five days. This method produces a richer color in the glass, more tannins, and an incredible florality on both the nose and palate. With an abundance of stone fruit and bright citrus notes (think tangerine and kumquats), this wine is like liquid sunshine.
Enlightenment Garnacha Blanc (Spain) – If you love crisp whites and haven’t yet tried a Garnacha/Granache Blanc, then here is a great one to get you started and to help you “see the light.” Awash with tangerine and grapefruit, minerals and a salty tang that likely comes from the fact that the grapes are grown on steeply terraced vineyards that look out over the sea on a three hectare estate of white, granite-rich sand.
Santola Vinho Verde Rosé (Spain) – Santola’s regular Vinho Verde is one of our favorite spring/summer “all day drinker” wine. Their new Rosé is a touch more potent at 11% ABV (the white is 9%) but still crisp and refreshing on the finish with just a hint of spritz. Notes of strawberry, cranberry and white peach.
Ca’ Momi Rosso di Napa (California) - Rosso di Napa is a proprietary blend of premium Napa Valley grapes (Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot & Zinfandel) showcasing the best characteristics of each varietal produces a complex, elegantly textured wine sure to complement thediverse cuisine you crave. Beautiful aromas of blackberries & subtle oak lead to luxurious flavors of cherries, plums & spice.
Trefethen “Double T” Napa Red (California) – Our other Napa Red Blend in this sampler shows the more elegant side of Napa. The cooler climate of Oak Knoll where Trefethen is based produces a wine that is a classic blend of all 5 Bordeaux varietals (Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Malbec and Petit Verdot), showing fragrant aromas of cherry, cracked pepper, and toasted oak. The palate delivers flavors of berries with rich chocolate and savory spices on the finish.
Caprili “Ilex” Sangiovese Toscana (Italy) - A symbol of Montalcino, the Holm Oak (Quercus ilex) stands tall at Caprili estate, to the point of lending its name to this Tuscan red. Intense ruby with violet reflections Intense, fruity, and spicy, with ripe blackberries, wild strawberries, spice and vanilla. Full, fruity, persistent, and soft, with ripe blackberries, wild strawberries, and spice and vanilla in the finish. Rounder, softer acidity and lower price than you get from Chianti.
Errazuriz “Max Reserve” Carmenere (Chile) - MAX Carmenere displays a dull and deep violet color. On the nose, notes of black and red fruits, herbs and spiced character as roasted red bell pepper, rosemary and dill, all framed by soft notes of chocolate and roasted coffee beans. The palate adds notes of nuts, dark cherries and coffee with good structure framed by elegant, fine grained tannins that give a silky texture on the palate.
Sparkman “Wilderness Red” (Washington) – Sparkman’s tribute wildlife preservation, Wilderness Red is a blend that changes from vintage to vintage with the 2018 being 61% Syrah, 20% Petite Sirah, 15% Grenache, 2% Sangiovese, 2% Touriga Nacional. Appealing aromas of black berry, plum, flower, crushed nut and spice. On the palate it exhibits a sweet bouquet of red-black fruits, cigar tobacco, pencil lead and tapenade. Medium plus-bodied, rich and complex, its fine-grained tannins frame a succulent core of sweet fruit that's complemented by plenty of savory nuance. Finishes with persisting barrel flavors.
Skullflower Red (California) – Our 3rd Cali Blend in this month’s mixed case is again completely different than the other two. Crafted by 4th generation, Mendocino winemaker Rich Parducci, Skullflower is a bold and spicy red that will appeal to lovers of Orin Swift’s Prisoner. Tight, concentrated aromas of black fig and dark chocolate meet beefy, earthy and ripe berry flavors in this high-powered, concentrated wine. It has a full body and firm tannins that give it a powerful structure, with nice depth and a lingering chocolate and cherry finish.
Irekura Rioja (Spain) – A classic Tempranillo based blend that has an attractive, deep, cherry color and featuring a aromas and flavors that are fresh and complex expressing note of blackberry forest fruit and prunes, while notes of cocoa, vanilla and subtle toast also come through denoting an ageing in top quality oak. Fresh and lively on the palate with very well-integrated acidity, it has a lovely, pleasant mouth-feel with a long, lingering finish.
Maison Albert Pinot Noir (France) - Certified organic. A light and fruity Pinot Noir, typically fruit driven with notes of raspberries, cherries, and strawberries. It carries delicate and light floral flavors with a feel of silk and also contains supple tannins.
