Great Value Whites Mixed Case - October/November 2024 Edition

Our latest Value Whites case still has a couple of light and crisp whites for those times when something refreshing is called for, but the nip in the air that will hopefully arrive with the falling leaves calls for whites with a little more body and substance.

Giocato Pinot Grigio (Slovenia) - Slovenia's most respected winemaker, Aleks Simcic's Giocato line of "everyday" wines named in honor of his favorite feline are fantastic bargains.  We poured his Sauvignon Blanc back at our tasting with the importer a few months ago, but here we have the latest batch of his Pinot Grigio.  The vineyards for this delicious Pinot Grigio are just a "frisbee throw" away from Italy, and definitely remind of us of top quality Alto Adige PG, but for half the price.  It is bright and crisp, with aromas of delicious green apple, acacia flower, and almonds.

Domaine Grenaudiere Muscadet (Loire Valley, France) - Don't confuse Loire Valley Muscadet with the sweeter style wines made from NC's Muscadine.  The two couldn't be further apart in style.  This bone dry white has aromas of melon, grapefruit, lemon, mineral and floral notes offering up a lovely aromatic experience. The palate is crisp and refreshing with a massive return on the investment as promised by the nose. Great depth of citrus flavors, wet rock and bright apple fruit.   For those your "R" month oyster fans, Loire Valley is THE top choice for fresh oysters.

Ocean Road Sauvignon Blanc (Australia) - We've been anxiously awaiting the new vintage of this Aussie Sauvignon Blanc to arrive as it was a massive hit back in Australian Wine Month.  This is a bright, pleasantly fruity SB with notes of peach, watermelon and pineapple, and with just a touch of something greener, like gooseberry. Acidity rushes in straight away on the palate, pulsing until the finish. There's a slight chalky textural weight adding to the pineapple rind and peach fuzz flavors.

Floriography "Blooming" White (South Africa) - The Floriograpghy Rose has been a big hit, so when the distributor came to us with a deal on their White Blend, we were really excited.  Blooming White is an explosion of aroma and flavor. It has prominent Muscat (also NOT Muscadine!) flavors and aromas with apricot and floral notes dominating nose. A well balanced wine with a delicate fruitiness and crisp acidity. A medium to full bodied white with flavors of elderflower and passion fruit mingling at the core, this is velvety in texture, with just enough acidity. Vanilla bean notes emerge on the finish. 

Domaine Haut de Mourier Viognier (Languedoc, France) - The Bouix family owns and operates this picturesque property in southern France, and the family's winemaking tradition goes back five generations. This 100% Viognier comes from vines grown in limestone and colluvium clay, yielding a flavorful white wine a bright acidity, followed by fresh flower notes and a round mouthfeel. Juicy peach notes sneak their way in, along with apricot and honey.
